Ikogosi Warm Spring
It could fade away from history, so it is expedient I remind us that the Ikogosi warm spring which is presently in Ekiti State was once for Ondo State. We should note that the story of Rev McGee was in the 1960's and it is a thing of note that Ekiti State was created from Old Ondo State in 1996. When I was going to Ibadan and I passed the Ikogosi Warm Spring in Ekiti, I was so confused because, I was fed with stories while growing up about the water and was told it was from my state, making me a little bit confused when I saw it in Ekiti State and the so many developed Ekiti State government contributed to the tourist site while there were just faction out of Old Ondo in 1996.
The Story is a very heroic story of how someone discovered the source of the art of God's beauty and used it for God’s glory. The people of Ikogosi attached some level of diabolism to source of Ikogosi. For those who have not heard about the spring, it is a spring that a part of it, produce cold water and the other part produces hot water. I use to hear a rumor while growing up that there can't be trapped in a bottle or container, the bottle or container would shatter into pieces.
The source of the hot and cold spring was discovered by a Baptist missionary John S Mcgee based in a nearby town of Igede Ekiti. He was discourage from going to the source of the Spring, that who every discovered the source of the Spring would die a mysterious death by a supernatural being and he being harmed with knowledge and not superstition, knows that all things where made by God, Just that the devil like to steal things, embark to discover the source of the spring. When he had found it, he decided to build a Baptist youth camp around it with the support of the church and the place became a tourist attraction. The Government started having a eye on it and decided to forced him out and persuaded the church to sell to them and no sooner from then, it became a bush again until it was revived again by the recent government of Ekiti State and now a tourist site all again. If you are looking for a good place to catch fun in the south west of Nigeria, Ikogosi Spring could be a fun place to be.
