Where is your Ram
It's another Islamic holidays coming up on the 31st of July Eid-al-Adha generally called in the south west of Nigeria (Yoruba people), odun Ile ya. The Hausa guys calls it baban Sallah. Literally means big Sallah in English.
It is usually celebrated with a ram, I guess that was were Abraham, from the Bible discovered a name for God. It is a name of God now, but according to the story, it was the name of the place, he called it Jehovah Jireh (Genesis 22:14). We were told the story is thesame as in the Quran. This time, Abraham is called Ibrahim. He took is son Isaac called Ishaq to be sacrificed to God, he was about to complete the sacrifice before he was stopped and blessed of God, and a ram was provided by God for the sacrifice.
The holidays is always celebrated with a ram and it is been distributed to neighbors when it has been slaughter for the fest. Get used to seeing Rams tired down around your neighborhood because if the ram is not purchased on time, the price on the eve of the event would be neck breaking. So feeding Rams and cleaning their dung, is part of the fun of holidays. If you are moved, be charitable and get some persons what to wear for the Sallah, it might go along way.
Another fun part is that people travel and send Rams to there hometown during the holidays. You get to reunite with most of your friends who went to the city for greener pastures, you don't want to be left behind, some good new clothes with some pocket change, is what would make you turn up on that day. It's less than 20 day to the festival, like my homies would say, "No loss guard that day".
